Is David still around? These blog posts seem rather old, though the information is still pretty valuable. Let us know how you're doing & if you're still posting on this blog.

I had the same problem for two years. It was so bad I wanted to die. I had a small polyp removed but it wasn't completely cleared up until I stopped eating anything that had milk in it. There's a protein in milk, perhaps more than one, that the body reacts to as a foreign substance. It causes inflammationa and kicks the immune system in gear so your immune response is probably hyperactive. And if you're continuosly eating products with milk, it won't go away and you'll never learn the cause. The milk also creates mucous on your intestine so your not absorbing/processing food as efficiently. I hope this helps you, and wish that doctors had been smart enough to figure it out. But they weren't. It took a while for me to find the source of the problem but now I'm okay unless I have milk products: then it starts up again. Good luck to you.

Before you can treat your symptoms, you need to figure out the root cause.
Dealing with IBS is not easy, as the causes of IBS differ from person to person. The varying causes, as well as the diverse array of symptoms that may present themselves as a result of IBS make it a very challenging condition for doctors to recognize, as well as treat. While hundreds of potential causes exist, most cases of IBS result from issues that fall within one of two major categories: (1) food allergies and intolerances (2) problems with intestinal bacteria, yeast/candida, or parasites.
Before you can properly treat your IBS, you must first determine the leading cause of your symptoms. Have you been tested for food allergies or for any bacterial or yeast overgrowth? If not, I would recommend getting these tests done. The allergy test must be a blood test and include BOTH IgE and IgG antibodies to guarantee that no food allergies are missed.
Testing for bacteria, yeast, and parasites is done by stool testing. While problems in just one of these areas can alone cause IBS, most people find that their IBS is caused by a combination of both a food allergy and a bacterial imbalance.
The blood and stool tests are widely available, straightforward, and affordable.
Have you ever read "The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Solution" by Dr. Stephen Wangen? I would highly recommend this text - it will definitely help to clear up some of the confusion surrounding IBS. I have also found the author's website www.ibstreatmentcenter.com to be extremely helpful - packed with a lot of great info on the symptoms, causes, and various treatments for IBS.

My doctor told me that IBS is a neurological disease
caused by torturing ones brain with masturbation.
It took me 7 weeks of not having sex to fully recover.
He was totally right.

I wish you all guys to believe that sex not only gives life and pleasure but also gradually kills your neurons causing IBS and depressions.

I got diagnosed with IBS about 1 and a half years ago. At first It was a relief since I thought that I probably had soem form of cancer or something serious like that. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just avoid Foods that tend to cause symptoms including milk products, chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, carbonated drinks, and fatty foods. These can make things worse. I also use a product called Digestrin. It helps A LOT! check out there website, to see if this might be right for you. Just dont worry to much. There are much worse things that could be wrong with your body. Good Luck!

To be honest, diet change at least for me did very little. It doesn't really tackle why the body is sending physical symptoms. I had Mickel Therapy which as all but ended my IBS and without diet change or pills.

It basically tackles the underlying symptoms and by understanding them and acting on them, the body stops sending them...pretty cool stuff!

Be well.
